I recently went on a first aid splurge when I completed an inventory check and realized that I was low on supplies. Read: I went through a bunch of products in my first aid cabinet and panicked because I ran out of everything at once.
Then I spent a silly amount of money on items that I needed at the last minute. And here we are… Time to stock up! Sometimes those emergencies or random accidents happen, and the first aid essentials can help big time.
This blog post is inspired by a friend who reached out to me with a question about her own first aid cabinet options, to which she said, “That was so helpful, you should make a blog post on this.” So, here we are.
I’ve created a list of top 10 first aid products that you might have never known you needed but could benefit from. Please note, it goes without saying but for liability reasons I will say it: None of the information stated in this blog post is specific medical treatment. You do you, go to a doctor vibes/seek professional help if need be. Thank you!
Without further ado, here are some items that I keep in my first aid cabinet that come in handy. (This is outside of the basics like bandages, pain relievers, and ice packs.)
1. Petroleum jelly: Vaseline and Aquaphor. Trust.
2. Pain reliever, yes, but arnica tabs and arnica cream (for bruises)
3. Baking soda and/or calamine drying agents
4. Hydrogen peroxide
5. Corticosteroid cream
6. Gauze (make sure it’s sterile)
7. Medical tape or non-elastic tape (similar to pre-wrap if you used this in sports)
8. Hydrocolloid patches for rashes, easy dressings, blisters (They work for acne too! This is what acne patches are made of – you can always grab these in large sizes and then cut into smaller ones for an economical win)
9. Silicone scar cream
10. Oatmeal soak (great for a bath if a rash or allergic reaction is occurring on your skin)
11. Throat spray like bee propolis or Biociden
12. Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory (found in turmeric) and has been called “nature’s Advil.” I’m a fan of keeping a good quality one in your cabinet.
I recommend keeping these on hand so you have them when they are needed. Stock up when they’re on sale and you’re good to go.
Let’s create a running list of options, so that we can all be prepared! Sound off in the comments below.
