If you’re someone who loves shopping on a budget and getting good quality food and nutrition, I think you’ll love ButcherBox. I’m currently a subscribed member and I became an affiliate to share their deals with you because I love it so much. Once I started up my subscription and saw the improvements that they made over the years, I was hooked. The quality of the food, ease of ordering (shipping and scheduling), and free shipping, have me as a continued customer and I wanted to share some of my favorite ButcherBox features and items. While I originally thought I would miss grocery shopping for meat and seafood, I found that I love this option way more than expected.

Full disclosure: It took me some time to be sold, but now I’m in it and sticking with it. After first being exposed to them in 2018, I had the opportunity to use their product at a firehouse cooking workshop. All were pleased and impressed with the quality of the meat and seafood used, and this is when they were first getting started. The one thing that held me back from continuing a personal subscription at the time was the packaging – in my personal opinion, they didn’t have it down, and there would be leaks due to random holes.

Some of my favorite perks of subscribing to ButcherBox include:

  • Great quality meats and seafood.
  • Food delivered to your door.
  • Perfect portions for defrosting.
  • Variety of food (raw, pre-cooked/prepped, and different types and cuts of animal protein).
  • Budget-friendly: member deals are randomly sent to your inbox, and sometimes the flash deals can have you saving majorly on your grocery bill. Plus, if you get in on an affiliate deal, you could be saving more money by getting added free protein for the year.
  • Access to cooking classes and recipes if you are in need.
  • No-fuss service: their customer service is supreme, as is their programming for ordering and tracking upcoming deliveries.

I love that ButcherBox stands by these values and certifications, focusing on quality raising standards, ingredients, and more.

All ButcherBox products: No antibiotics or added hormones ever, humanely raised.

  • Beef: 100% grass-fed and finished, pasture-raised
  • Pork: Crate-free and humanely raised
  • Chicken: Free range, USDA-certified organic
  • Seafood: Wild-caught (Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, Alaskan Cod, Sea Scallops, Haddock, Cold-cracked Maine Lobster)

My favorite ButcherBox animal protein cuts to order include:

  • Pasture-raised whole chicken
  • Grass fed ribeye steak
  • Pasture-raised ground chicken
  • Atlantic salmon
  • Organic chicken breasts
  • Bacon

I’ve tried over 20 items, and I can honestly say the only item I wouldn’t order again is the wild Alaskan cod – I prefer a thicker cod. That’s it. To me, that’s a great track record.

If you’re going to try ButcherBox, I recommend using my affiliate link for a deal. I locked in free protein for a year, which meant every order I got came with extra free protein (you choose) for the year. I also get the custom 6 item package, and I’ve found that adding things on sale for when I want more animal protein is a budget saver.

What to do with the animal protein? You can grab a copy of Flexible Food and get making some of the many recipes that feature quality animal protein. Some favorites are the ground chicken teriyaki bowl, pan seared salmon, grain-free coconut shrimp, Mediterranean bison or lamb bowls, and more.
