Engaging with the firefighting community has been a fulfilling and educational experience. My hope is to focus on presenting simple, realistic, and sustainable positive nutrition behavior changes. Introducing nutrition education and counseling can provide the information and resources needed to create a healthy eating environment in firehouse kitchens. In addition, another goal is to produce a healthy and balanced diet that adequately fuels firefighters for their unknown tasks during the workday, while decreasing their risk of heart disease.

Services provided include:

  • Educational classes and interactive presentations
  • Needs assessment
  • Group meetings and counseling sessions
  • Programs, strategies and plans for healthy eating and weight loss
  • Articles and information to support proper nutrition
  • Newsletters containing nutrition topics of interest, recipes, and tips
  • Information geared toward emergency response personnel
  • Advice and recommendations to the Fire Chief to promote a healthier work environment in regards to eating habits
